Movies shot in Italy: A journey to discover the most beautiful locations
Italy, with its diversity of breathtaking landscapes and unique places, has always been one of the most loved sets by directors from all over the world.
With our virtual journey we want to take you to the discovery of some of these wonderful places, sometimes very well known sometimes more unknown.
We begin our journey from Rome. We could not start with Federico Fellini's emblematic film "La Dolce Vita", one of the most romantic films set in the Eternal City, starring the Swedish diva Anita Ekberg and the very Italian Marcello Mastroianni. Definitely a classic, and certainly the scene filmed in the Trevi Fountain made an entire generation fall in love.
Remaining in Rome, we certainly could not forget "Roman Holiday", a film directed by director William Wyler with two exceptional protagonists, style icon Audrey Hepburn, awarded the Oscar for best leading actress, and Gregory Peck.
Let's now pass to Procida, the smallest of the islands in the Gulf of Naples and the least known, set of the film "Il Postino" with the Neapolitan actor Massimo Troisi, directed by Michael Redford in collaboration with Massimo Troisi.
The small but wonderful island, nominated as the European capital of culture of 2022, is the set of this modern and poetic fairy tale, where the protagonist is Mario Ruoppolo, a shy and awkward postman who gradually manages to establish a friendship with Neruda.
Among our favorite movies shot in Italy certainly “Under The Tuscan Sun”, a movie based on the novel of the same name by the writer Frances Mayes, starring Diane Laine and directed by Audrey Wells.
A film that certainly makes you daydream for the locations chosen among the most beautiful places in Italy. The movie was shot mainly in Tuscany, in Cortona, the places in the historic center for exteriors as well as a villa near the city walls, and in Montepulciano and its surroundings. Filming continued in the historic center of Rome and in Positano.
A movie that is pure poetry. “Under The Tuscan Sun” is not just a movie but a state of mind.
Let's now go to northern Italy on the magnificent Lake Como and to Venice, for a tour of the places of 007, exactly with "Casino Royale" directed by Martin Campbell, starring actor Daniel Craig. The film was awarded the Silver Ribbon for Best European Film.
Two exceptional locations given the beauties that these two places offer. Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como is the location used to shoot the scenes of 007's convalescence.
Casino Royale was the 21st film in the James Bond saga
